In this week’s lesson I’m really capture by Justin Martry’s courage in refuting against the gnostics of his time. He didn’t just hide and keep for himself his own belief, but really did stand for what is right and spoke the truth to those who are blinded by their own knowledge. I like and I admire his example of taking that risky step of standing firm on his ground even if it could bring a great harm to him. This just really shows how much faith and trust he has to the Lord that he completely laid his life and face the dangers that he could get in refuting against people whose belief are crooked. His life shows the great truth that if we would just do what God wills us to do we could be sure that his protection was upon us and that nothing could bring us harm for he is on our side.
Personally in my Christian walk, there are a lot of times that I refrain from taking a stand for what is right or that I refrain from taking the risk because I allowed fear to consume me. I always doubted God’s protection and his care by trying to make sure that I won’t get hurt with the decision that I make. I always have the idea of securing my own self first before anything else. Even if I could really say that I love taking risks but I know those risks that I make are all evaluated for my own good and somehow could benefit me. And I know that was such a selfish act unlike Justin’s risks that’s made for the good of the hearers and to bring the good news of God. I really could see that I should make my motives right in regards to my taking risks. That if ever I would make a stand and decide to do what is right it would be also for the gospel to be make known and that the light of Christ would be revealed, even if it means to take a step out of my comfort zone and to lay down fully all my own.
In order to make all that realizations into practice I should always fix my eyes on Jesus Christ. And that by focusing on him I would always be reminded to do what I need to do for his glory and honor alone, that even if I need to put myself in a dangerous situation I would be willing because I have that full trust in him. Another thing is to always believe and have faith on his promises which are all stated in his Word. To read and meditate on his Word will give me the strength to always be reminded that his protection will never cease to follow a person who is doing what he wills.
