Reaching out By Touching the Real Need (10th)

Martin Luther’s life that really made an impact to me was his ability to see the real need of this people around him; especially his flock. As a priest in a certain chapel he did not just preach like others who would prefer to use the Latin sermons just to impress the people and let everyone see that they are far different from the ordinary ones. For Martin, it doesn’t matter whether he would be seen as specially or would be regarded to as a holy priest because of preaching Latin but he would just want the ordinary people to understand him reason why most of his preaching are all delivered in German language the local language of all the people. He choose to break the practice that mostly priest do, or are probably ordained to them. He was the first one to deliver a message in German language and not in Latin. By that it shows how he saw the need of the audience to understand the Scripture in their very own language. He was also very zeal in studying the Scripture. He did not just depend on the prepare sermons given to them, but would really take time in studying it referring to the original text for better understanding before he delivers one. What a zealous Scripture researcher!

Looking at my own personal life, as a teacher I could really say that a lot of times I overlook the real need of my audience who are my students. That instead of speaking to the local language of their heart at times I feel more like speaking a foreign one, like the priest speaking in Latin. It’s more of showing off and was just trying to impress the listeners but everything I’m saying where all just useless. It may not be the literal way of speaking to of a foreign dialect with my kids because everytime I teach I talk either in English or Cebuano for everyone to understand. What I mean is that I teach in a form and style that doesn’t touch each ones learning style and ability. And most of the time I would just depend upon the material that was given to me and study only the material without even bothering to look at the Scripture whether I am teaching the right thing. I prefer to do it in the easy way, just follow the script or the lesson already prepared by that I fail to see and experience the more powerful message that I could have get if I studied it on the part of the Scripture where it is taken from. 

From this day on, I will really strive hard to be able to speak in the language of my students hearts. That I will really take the effort to know each of their needs and respond or teach in a way that I know I’m reaching out to each of their ability and learning capabilities. To be able to do that I will really value relationships and will strive hard to gain their trust first to be close to them and to let them know I care and I love them fairly. In regards to my teaching the lessons that I will teach I will really strive to take time to read the story first from the Bible and refrain from just trusting and being contented with the prepared one. I will value learning it by heart with the aid of the Scripture and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
